DISHARMONY and resentment between the Government and people is a recipe for national disintegration, says Opposition leader Don Polye.

Polye said this when commenting on the statement by Bougainville President John Momis who warned the Government that cuts to funding to the region in the 2016 budget could force his people to push for separation from PNG.

“National unity can only be achieved when the views and the interests of the people are captured in the decisions which the Government makes. The absence of dialogue with respective provincial leaders will incite resentment and distrust.”

Polye said the AROB was an integral part of PNG and that its concerns were unique due to the crisis.

He said because of this the people of AROB deserved special attention from the Government.

He added he feared the Government’s crusade aimed at cutting funds was only for its political expediency and not for shared and inclusive growth, saying it may deviate its focus from the people to others.
