Grade 10 students in Madang performed poorly: Dr Kombra

GRADE 10 students who sat for the national examination last year in Madang performed poorly, says Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra.
This was the assessment by the Education Department in the 17 schools whose students sat for the grade 10 examination.
The department uses the Mean Rating Index (MRI) system to assess the students’ performance.
Schools which did well scored more than 50 per cent.
“If you score below 50 per cent, you are below the MRI.
“If you score 50 per cent and above, you are above the MRI.”
He said he did not want to embarrass anyone by calling out their names but was making a general statement.
Of the 17 schools, only five scored an MRI above 50 per cent.
It meant that only 29 per cent scored above 50 and 71 per cent below 50.
Dr Kombra told the teachers, parents and education officials at the opening of the academic year at Tusbab Secondary School in Madang that they all must address the challenges to improve the grade 10 results this year.
He said the grade 12 students did well last year.
Out of the nine schools whose students sat for the examination in Madang, seven scored 50 per cent and above.

  • Very bad news for us/Madang . Can we do it better this year 2021 and prove to Dr Kombra. Both Parents, students and teachers ,put our differences a side and let’s work together.
    Don’t blame the covid-19???
