Grades 8 and 10 exams vital

Letters

Phasing out the outcome-based education (OBE) and introducing a standard-based curriculum (SBC), and a new 1-6-6 structure in the education system of Papua New Guinea are commendable approaches in sustaining decent educational outcomes.
These two strategies will maintain not only quality education but also examinations.
Abolishing the grade 8 and 10 examinations will surely lessen commitment in teaching and learning among imparters and learners, thus, the quality of knowledge, skills and attitudes will be lacking.
This is because examinations demand more dedication and effort for quality study for decent education achievement.
Eradicating both national examinations means shallow teaching and learning which will result in incompetent and ineffective production of labour.
Grades 8 and 10 examinations are vital to prepare students psychologically and academically for grade 12.
I mindfully urge the national Government, through Education Minister Nick Kuman, to refrain from abolishing grades 8 and 10 examinations.
These are our only quality approaches to acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes for our young generations for absolute betterment of our growing economy.
Only through national examinations will one can maintain a higher standard of learning through more time commitment in studying and reflection.
