Graduates can be teachers: Official

UNIVERSITY graduates who do not have teaching qualifications but want to be teachers can be so if they have a teaching position in a school.
Teachers’ Service Commission chairman Samson Wangihomie said this in Port Moresby recently.
He told The National that a circular had been sent out last year explaining the process.
“Is it ok for the university graduates? he asked.
“Yes, the circular is already there, if the schools say no, they don’t want to give a teaching position, that’s the appointment authority.
“The process is all in the circular, they got to have a teaching position first, and then we can do the admission.
“We (TSC) don’t admit them because they are expressing interest. No.
“They got to secure the position first.”
Wangihomie said teachers without teaching qualifications who wanted to teach at Technical Vocational Education Training (Tvet) institutions had to have industrial experience of five years’ technical colleges and three years for vocational centres.
He said if they had those qualifications, then TSC would admit them.
“For the other category of teachers, as long as it’s a recognised university, they have to come with a GPA of 2.5 and above for us to get them onboard.”
Wangihomie said for the teachers who had resigned to contest for election, before resigning, they had to write to the commission and the commission would resign them and if they lose and want to rejoin the teaching force, they will be reinstated.
“But for those who don’t, they would not be reinstated.
Wangihomie said for teachers who had been absconded from teaching, he was interested to know what really happened.
They have to resign and get re-admitted if they want to join the teaching force.
Wangihomie said the process was in the circular that was sent out last year. He urged teachers or other university graduates who were interested to join the teaching force to have a look at it.

  • If you have a degree in transportation it doesn’t mean you can teach!
Teaching is supposed to be a profession not an alternative if you cant find a job after graduation.
