Teachers to report on Jan 25

ALL teachers in Morobe are obliged to be in school on the first day of school and not roaming around in town or the village, provincial acting education adviser Keith Tangui says.
He said those teachers who knew their postings should start making necessary arrangements to move to their schools before the academic year started.
“You are to be in the school by Jan 25 before the classes resume on Feb 1,” Tangui said
There have been numerous instances in the past when teachers posted to rural schools, did not go there or some went there to fill in forms to resume duty and then returned to town or their village.
This ensured they were paid – whether at school or not.
“This should not happen again and if teachers are caught doing this, they will be put off the payroll,” Tangui said.
He said teachers should accept their postings and if it meant they would be travelling to remote schools, they had to accept that and not return to propose their choices.
This would not be entertained, he said.
“Don’t have a second choice of sitting in a comfort zone all the time,” Tangui said.
“You have to go where you are posted to teach this academic year.”
He said for those teachers not yet given any position, there would be a second posting review next week and their letter of appeal would be look at.
Tangui said they did a pre-selection for the grade nine in the province last week and would finalise the selection this week.
The provincial education board endorsed the selection yesterday and reminded parents that school fees for had to be partly met by parents.
Tangui said the 3-6-6 (the first three years in elementary school followed by six years each in primary and secondary) for schools in the province would be implemented and selected schools had been identified for the pilot project.
