Grandpa faces sex charges

A 64-year-old man is facing four charges of sexual penetration of four girls under the age of six, one of them his own granddaughter.
He appeared before Magistrate Gerard Vetunawa in the Goroka Commital Court on Friday and the matter was adjourned to Sept 3.
According to court information, the man from Gembogl, Upper Chimbu, allegedly enticed the girls by buying lollies and sweets for them and showed them movies on his mobile phone.
He took them into his bedroom and showed pornographic movies on his mobile phone.
As they were watching, Umba penetrated them with his fingers.
He penetrated them one at a time on many occasions between July 1 and July 13, during the second term school holidays.
Three of the girls, including his granddaughter, were five years old while the eldest was six.
The man, who was a security guard, warned them not to tell their parents and if they did, he would kill them. The eldest child felt a severe pain after urinating and could not walk properly, according to her grandmother.
When the grandmother asked, she told her what the man had been doing to them.
The other three also revealed everything the man had done to them.
He was taken to the police station where he was questioned and arrested.
Meanwhile, the Goroka Committal Court committed three murder suspects to stand trial in the National Court.
Sanson Gideon, Globe Taifu and Robin Gosa, of Sogomi village in the Bena area of Unggai-Bena, are facing a charge of murder of Wabo Amos, from the same village, in December last year.
The suspects had allegedly argued with the deceased over borrowed money and started a fight that resulted in the murder of Amos.
Vetunawa found sufficient evidence and committed them to trial in the National Court.
