PRIME Minister James Marape returned to PNG satisfied after the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leaders’ meeting in Tuvalu last week.
Marape presented PNG’s views of the meeting on the importance of unity in the Pacific.
“We came in with one thought to ensure Pacific nations do not go wondering off with many different views of achieving our goals on climate change.
“Climate change is a crisis in the Pacific region,” he said.
The final leaders’ meeting last Thursday took 12 hours before the leaders came to a conclusion and a communiqué was signed.
Marape said he was deeply concerned about the effect of climate change as it was affecting many small islands in PNG, especially the Carterets Islands, and added that he would be vocal about climate change when he attended the United Nations General Assembly next month.
“It is a global issue and we in the Pacific must unite as one for our voice to be heard globally,” he said.
