A NON-GOVERNMENT organisation is encouraging oil palm block holders to get into agrobusiness.
People Unite to Serve Humanity (Push Inc) has been engaged by the Asian Development Bank to train people in the impact areas of the 12 bridges in West New Britain with business skills.
Push Inc/ADB Livelihood project director Nos Werao said they also conducted research and evaluation into maximise production and earning of locals in the province.
“We encouraged them to use at least a hectare aside from their oil palm to get in to agrobusiness,” he said.
“We get in partnership with the Small and Medium Enterprise Corporation to get into the SME sector and we conducted training and issue certificates.
“We provide technical advice to our farmers, soil sampling and testing in the labs to give the farmers seedlings which are best suited the coastal climate (climate resistant crops).
“We give the financial literacy training where we encourage them into agrobusiness and eco-tourism.”
