YOUTHS from West Taraka, in the Ward 6 area of Lae, hope to have a resource centre to help the young, illiterate and unemployed.

The West Taraka Morobe Reformers’ Association, a group formed in 2011 to help youths with no formal education and those with no employment opportunities, is giving them hope.

Association secretary Jeffrey Lape said they were in the process of holdings talks with provincial and national MPs from Morobe to seek funding for the centre which, when established, will serve youths in the Ward 6 area comprising East Taraka, West Taraka and Igam Barracks.

“Numerous requests for such a centre and other assistance have been relayed to former leaders from Morobe, with no favourable response but we will keep knocking on their doors until our request is granted,” he said.

“Our leaders must step out and assist because statistics show that the crime rate in the West Taraka area Lae city is greatly affecting the delivery of goods and services in the country’s industrial hub, as well as the other districts in the province.”
