A GROUP in East New Britain is worried about social problems that could arise from the New Britain highway.

Construction of the highway to link the two New Britain provinces began two weeks ago.

Members of the group, East New Britain Today have urged the provincial government to explain how it would deal with the negative effects of the road link.

Group member David Hoskins said there should be ways to deal with the problems which could arise.

“With the road link now in place, have our provincial leaders designed strategies to cushion the negative impacts that will pop up?” he said.

“Can they organise a public forum to tell the people about it? Many of the existing roads are bad and we are paying less attention to them. Now we are opening a link.”
