MANY Papua New Guineans who undergo studies in Australia return home without completing their scholarship, PNG-Australia Alumni East New Britain chapter president James Wong said.
He said the recently formed provincial chapter was now well established and set on addressing the issue by ensuring people were better prepared when they went to Australia
for studies.
“Preparation should be done a lot better before students get to Australia,” he said.
Wong said if students were planning to take their families with
them, it was better for them to go to Australia first and settle down
before arranging for their families to join them.
“It is important to prepare yourself even in small things,” he said.
The provincial chapter now has a committee that includes Cathy Pidi Brown as secretary, provincial health adviser Nick Larme as an executive, Security Assistance chief executive officer Wong as president and University of Natural Resources and Environment head of agriculture Peter Navus as vice-president.
Navus was previously interim president.
Wong said recently they met with representatives from other provinces in Port Moresby and addressed the same issue.
