GULF Isou have broken camp following last week’s start of the national isolation period with players asked to continue training from home.
Isou team manager Raymond Aru said the coaching staff would use the four-week isolation period to pick a final side for the 2021 Digicel Cup season.
“Since we use the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation facilities, it’s going to affect our training schedule,” he said.
“Our coaching staff have given out training programmes for the next couple of weeks.
“If restrictions are relaxed, we will name a final squad of 25-30 players to come in for camp.
“When players return after the isolation period, we will be testing them on the programmes they were given so that everyone is on the level that we want to be when the season kicks off.”
Aru said Isou had room for improvement with the coaching staff critical of their halves combination this year.
“There’s room for improvement in the halves,” he said.
“But we can’t keep saying that we’re going to improve late.
“Our players have to show now that they want to play in the Digicel Cup.
“If they aren’t going out there and showing that they can control the game and get the team going forward, we will be looking elsewhere for players who can.
“Right now, we have a fair mix of experienced players from last year along with rookies and we also have a few men joining us from other franchises.”
