Gulf Isou not dwelling on Enga Mioks scalp

GULF Isou say they can not be complacent against Lae Tigers despite grabbing their first victory of the Digicel Cup season with an 18-16 win over the Enga Mioks last weekend.
The Petroleum Resources Kutubu-sponsored team will play away to the Stanley Tepend-coached Tigers at the Lae Rugby League Ground on Sunday (3.10pm kick-off).
Isou said in a statement yesterday that they still had a lot of areas to improve on following their round-four victory at Port Moresby’s Oil Search National Football Stadium.
It was a much-needed win for coach Bagelo Solien’s men who welcomed new recruit and former SP Hunters winger Gairo Kapana to the club in style.
But Solien warned his men that they still had seven rounds of the regular season to play.
“We improved on our defence, but there is still more room for improvement,” he said.
“As with any other sport, defence can win you games.
“We analysed our 8-22 round-three loss to reigning premiers Hela Wigmen to put us on the right track.
“But we can’t stop here. It is important that we continue to improve as the season continues.”
Solien said defence had been a priority during training all week.
“Against the Tigers, we need to get our act together in defence to match the hosts who have a big, mobile pack,” he said.
“I’m confident that our pack can hold their own, but we must work hard and play smart for the entire match.”
Solien said he was counting on his backline to score points against a well-drilled Tigers outfit.
