POLICE in Gulf will investigate the death of a soldier who went missing and whose body was found on the beach two weeks ago, police said.
Police commander Inspector Silva Sika said the soldier from Taurama Barracks had gone for a holiday to his wife’s place at Uritai village in East Kerema.
Sika said a CID unit and community would work together to establish the circumstances of the death.
“I am waiting for the officer in-charge to bring the reports to the office before we carry out the investigation with the people and his families in the village,” he said.
Police said the officer went to the beach in the morning for a swim but was not found again until the afternoon when his body was found on the beach. The deceased was from Bougainville.
“We believe that he drowned and was taken away by strong winds and waves but we cannot assume anything,” he said.
