THE Gulf Provincial Sports Trust is seeking sponsors to run its provincial athletics championships feom Saturday at the Malalaua High School on behalf of the Gulf Athletics Association.
Since the establishment of the GPST last year and the launch of the strategic plan earlier this year, all sporting activities in the province should come under the trust to ensure corporate and government backing and monitoring.
GPST chief executive officer Lawrence Lahari said it was important they along with Gulf Athletics run the championships as it would unearth raw talents from the villages. Lahari said the GPST supported rugby league through the Gulf Isou franchise in the Digicel Cup and football through Erema FC in the FFPNG’s Premier League and also plans to run netball championships (July 23-24) which would coincide with the provincial athletics championships. “GPST is keen to have an annual championships to unearth more talent and the athletics and netball championships will provide that for us,” Lahari said.
“The running of these championships is also in line with GPST’s mission and vision but we are looking to fund these events.”
