PAPUA New Guinea international Meagan Gunemba says she is keen to help reigning Northern Conference champions Poro reach the finals of the Women’s National Soccer League.
The striker said that after her side’s 7-0 shutout of league rookies LFA Originals at the PNG Football Association Education Centre at 11-Mile outside Lae last week.
“After I came back, we did some tough training just to prepare for this match against LFA Originals,” she said of her return from representative duties in Singapore.
“My teammates or fine, they just lack self-belief.
“Being a senior player, my return boosted their confidence.
“We had so many opportunities to score, but we didn’t.”
Gunemba said the finals would be tough as fellow conference heavyweights Bara were also in good form.
Poro coach Troy Gunemba said despite the win, his team did not play according to his game plan.
“We will work harder especially on our goal-scoring opportunities,” he said.
“At least they did make an effort and got the win.
“We’ll look at fixing our mistakes for the next match.”
Gunemba said he was confident that his players would improve on their finishing for their next clash on Saturday.
