FORMER Lae City captain Raymond Gunemba says he is happy to back on the field for Hekari United after the veteran forward and teammate Nigel Dabinyaba left Lae City in March.
The 34-year-old told The National that he was grateful for the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League board’s decision to clear their return to Hekari.
“It’s great to be back with the team,” Gunemba said.
“We’re happy to be playing again.
“I will give my best for the team to help win the league.
“With my experience, I would like to help and encourage the younger players in Hekari.”
Hekari manager Vonnie Kapi Natto welcomed the pair’s inclusion despite their 0-1 loss to reigning champions City at Papua New Guinea Football Stadium in Port Moresby on Saturday.
“It was a tough two weeks for us,” she said.
“A lot of pressure and claims against us.
“I think it is not good for football and I’m glad it’s now history.
“I believe the pair have settle in well and are looking forward to our remaining games. It will not be easy.
“I brought them in to restore their reputation.
“I’m proud of bringing them back into the side.
“I’m happy with the team even though we lost. I’m proud of my players.
“Despite being a man down (after the sending of goalkeeper Ishmael Pole), we held on till the end.”
