HEKARI United’s Ishmael Pole has been issued a two-match ban and a K1,000 fine after receiving a red card against Lae City on Saturday, according to an official.
Referee David Yareboinen sent the goalkeeper off after the Papua New Guinea international was ruled to have taken out City midfielder Jacob Sabua in the second half.
Sabua scored the only goal in the opening five minutes of the top-of-the-table Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League (NSL) clash.
NSL assistant manager Micah Kaneng told The National yesterday that appropriate penalties under the competition regulations would apply. “As per the NSL regulations, a player who is sent off with a straight red card faces a two-match suspension and shall be fined K1,000,” he said.
“The fine must be paid prior to the player taking the field which the club has to abide by because these are the NSL regulations.”
With a man down after Pole’s sending off, Hekari were forced into a reshuffle with reserve goalkeeper Chritianus Biasu replacing substitute Nathan James.
Pole will miss Hekari’s matches against Kutubu and Vitiaz United with the custodian available for selection against Gulf Komara if the fine is paid then, according to the regulations.
Meanwhile, Kaneng warned players to be professional and follow the rules as part of a bid to lift the standard of football in the country.
