THE Madang Rugby Union title parted with its long time holders, DWU Cruzers, last Saturday, in the MRFU grandfinal, when they lost 22-25 to BSP Kalibobo Gunners.
The high-flying campaigners let the game go in the first half, giving their opposition a head start, which came back to ‘dog’ even their second half dominance.
Boasting a bigger pack in Jimmy Mai, John Bonat and Nathan Narokai, another title was in the beckoning, with Pius Nakatt, Danny Patrick, Carlos Sanul and speedster Langa Yatu set to finish off at the back.
But it was the bite of the opening fight for the Gunners that dented any real dominance by the scholars, scoring in the first six minutes through Foster Laurie, and Willie Lakman four minutes later.
Cruzers hung on, toiling away, however an intercept try by Foster going into the break, proved decisive at 17-0 up.
