Gurias hold in-house comp

THE Rabaul Gurias held an in-house nines rugby league series last week to prepare the team for the upcoming Digicel Cup season, according to an official.
Franchise manager Mapua Tamtu told The National yesterday that it was difficult for the Gurias to organise trial matches, given their geographical location.
“We are yet to get a response from the Kimbe Cutters regarding our proposed trial matches that will be played here at the Kalabond Oval on April 3 and in Kimbe,” Tamtu said.
“It’s easy for the Port Moresby and Highlands teams to have trial matches.
“But it’s costly for teams to travel by air to play trial matches here.
“That is why we wanted to help ourselves.
“We divided our 36-man train-on squad into three teams and they played a series in the nines format.”
