CHAIRMAN Sandis Tsaka has conveyed the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League’s support to the New Ireland Rugby Football League (NIRFL) and Kavieng communities affected by last weekend’s tensions.
He encouraged the local league to stand united under all circumstances.
“I encourage them to promote peace as a fundamental human aspiration,” Tsaka said in an email to NIRFL.
“Peace is essential to human security and well-being, it is a necessary condition for social, cultural and economic development. Our prayers are with you and our entire rugby league family and the community in Kavieng during these difficult times, not only with the (spike in) Covid-19 cases, but more so the recent spike in violence in the town.
“I commend NIRFL and our rugby league family for the initiative to work with the authorities and the community in New Ireland to address the issue.
As reported by The National on Monday, three people were killed in a fight between villagers and settlers in Kavieng last weekend
