Gurias look to humble Hela Wigmen in Port Moresby

THE Rabaul Gurias are aiming to beat the Hela Wigmen in Port Moresby on Sunday as they look to keep pace with competition leaders Lae Tigers.
With five games remaining before the top-six playoffs, coach Andiki Andrew needs his Port Moresby-based Wigmen to start clicking into gear starting with a win at the National Football Stadium.
The Wigmen, who are in the bottom half of the Digicel Cup ladder, will need to be disciplined and not give away unnecessary penalties to the second-placed Gurias.
“We are playing smart but our completion rate is not what is expected at this level so we should work hard on that to beat the Gurias,” Andrew said.
“If we can be patient in attack with our forwards playing smart, we should be able to come up with a positive result.
“We really need to work harder to win this at all costs and that means to play our cards right from the start.”
Wigmen captain Benjamin Hetra and centre Stanford Talita are expected to lead their charges against a consistent Gurias outfit.
Gurias are one of the best attacking sides in the competition and can make their opposition pay if given a sniff. Despite their attacking prowess, coach Steven Nightingale will have his side prepared in defence.
In the other Moresby encounter, the Port Moresby Vipers will need to stamp their authority at home against the high-flying Waghi Tumbe.
In Goroka, the Lahanis host the Gulf Isou while the Muruks take on the visiting Enga Mioks.
The Mt Hagen Eagles host the Central Dabaris while in Lae, the Tigers face the visiting Kimbe Cutters.
