AFL hopes for fine weather

CITY residents will be hoping for fine weather this weekend to avoid cancellation of round-seven matches in the Port Moresby Esi Loan Premiership at Colts Oval.
Last week’s round-six matches, which included the top-of-the-table clash between the Dockers and West Eagles, were cancelled due to the pitch being waterlogged.
Port Moresby AFL president Douglas Lai Sr said: “The round-six matches will be re-scheduled to a date yet to be decided by the match and permits committee.”
This weekend, the improving Gordon Kokofas look set to give competition leaders West Eagles a tough challenge tomorrow.
Bena Michael, David Yogomin, John Isu and Neil Malabag will be ensuring that Eagles stars Greg Ekari, Kila Rawali, John James Lavai, Clyde Pula, Dunstall Kase, Alois Mondo and Jeffery Namete are starved of possession.
Ekari, Rawali, Lavai and Pulah have arguably the best combination in the centre square and if they are not contained well by Bena and company, it will prove costly for the lizards. In another match tomorrow, a fired-up Gereka Bombers outfit taking on Sun City Cats at 1pm. The Cats are brilliant ball runners but they may find the Bombers quite tough in aerial contests.
The Bombers are fiery starters but they seem to fade off midway through the game but if they can maintain the momentum for the entire 80 minutes, they will have the Cats in trouble.
In Sunday’s matches, Concept Koboni are expected to cruise past North Waigani Royals Tigers and the Dockers are tipped to account for the Gerehu Magpies. An even battle is expected in the women’s match of the round when Dockers take on the Gordon Kokofas.
Competition leaders Kokofas are the unbeaten but they will find the going tough against the Dockers, who will be determined to avenge their first-round loss.
In tomorrow’s women’s match, the Gerehu Magpies are expected to edge out North Waigani Royals Tigers.
