The PNG Professional Boxing Gym has been endorsed by the PNG Pro Boxing Control Board to promote and hold professional boxing matches in the country.
The newly rebranded organisation is led by president Elvin Wafewa, a former boxer himself.
The PNGPBG was formed by former amateur fighters to promote and protect their interests as they move into the professional arena.
The organisation is affiliated to and recognised by the World Boxing Society, and as such will organise international bouts.
The PNG Professional Boxing Gym has produced a working plan and a calendar for 2018 to show potential sponsors, costs and requirements of the organisation to host such events.
“This year we have some major tournaments lined up. We have included international events on our calendar,” Wafewa said.
“We have drawn up a corporate plan and calendar to outline the costs to potential sponsors so that they have a clear idea of what they are supporting and how the money will be used in our plans according to the calendar.
“It will to part of a funding plan and calendar that we will approach potential sponsors with detailing the events that we have planned plus an estimated costs of running each event.”
In the 2018 calendar, the PNGPBG hopes to host international bouts which will see Papua New Guinea pro-boxers taking on foreign fighters.
These include fights between Papua New Guinea fighters and Indonesian fighters in June, Filipino fighters in September and Australians in November.
The Papua New Guinea Professional Boxing Gym will be seeking corporate support to host these events and help subsidise the running costs of the organisation.
