MOROBE provincial police commander Supt Peter Guinness has appealed to the parents of the 13 escapees of Bulolo town cell to return their sons to prison or face severe repercussions.
He did not elaborate.
Guinness has ordered an internal investigation into the cause of the mass breakout.
At the weekend, the police force in Bulolo went around the town area and appealed to the community, giving the suspects 48 hours to surrender.
A public servant in Bulolo said the internal investigation must be followed with a major reshuffle.
He said “such incident is unbudgeted for by the district treasury” and was a strain on funds.
He said it would be “an expensive exercise to have police on extra hours as well as getting police from outside in”.
He said the budget was already strained when the local villagers fought with Sepik settlers and the district was forced to bring in additional police manpower.
