THE people of Central have to be given opportunities to participate in the spin-offs from the projects that are being developed in the province, Governor Kila Haoda says.

He made the remark following the swearing in of board members for the Konebada Petroleum Park Authority yesterday.

The petroleum park would be built outside Port Moresby.

“When I came in as a Governor (for Central), we had virtually nothing, as far as business is concerned. Our business arm was run down,” Haoda said.

“I see this petroleum park as an opportunity for my Government to take.  The Central province welcomes development of the park in the province, we want to be given the priority in this project, please.

“We used to enjoy the benefits of Port Moresby when this land was taken away and became the capital of Papua New Guinea.

“Let me state that we do not want to complain about this. We want to put Port Moresby as our drawing board and make that as a way for our business opportunities.

“We are the host province and when major projects come in here, our people must be given priority,” Haoda said.
