Harassing highlands students a norm

Letters, Normal

I AM a former Passam National High School (Panaths) student from Kagua district, Southern Highlands.
I was there between 2007 and 2008.
The school principal used to be Mark Push, also from SHP.
He did not care where you came from and did not show favouritism.
He treated everyone fairly and even expelled his own brother who misbehaved in school.
Unfortunately, the Sepik students failed to see that and claimed Push was abusing the wantok system.
They used to write abusive and threatening notices like killing the principal and students from the highlands.
At night, especially during weekends, they would terrorise highlands students in their dormitories while we were sleeping.
We were abused both at school and in Wewak town.
As a result, many students from the highlands failed their examinations because we were denied a peaceful environment to study.
