HARLEQUINS recorded their 10th victory in the premier division of the Capital Rugby Union competition with 21-10 win over Wanderers at Bava Park on Sunday.
They have only recorded two losses and a draw to retain second spot on the 11-team ladder after 14 rounds.
Seventh on the ladder, Wanderers were pushing for their sixth win of the season and kept Harlequins under pressure when they scored first to lead 5-0 early in the game.
Harlequins responded through a try by Ron Butler.
The scrum-half failed to convert his own try, but he made up for it with two penalty goals which saw his side lead 11-5 at halftime.
Wanderers scored another unconverted try early in the second half to trail 10-11.
But with a dominant pack, Harlequins had better field position and possession which set the platform for their second try.
Butler kicked another penalty goal in his 14-point haul to extend his side’s lead to 21-5.
Wanderers only scored an unconverted try in the last 10 minutes, but they lost the match by 11 points.
Harlequins coach Billy Rapilla told The National after the game that his men lacked consistency despite dominating the competition.
“It was good to record another win, but there is a lot to improve on,” Rapilla said.
“There is no consistency in our performances every week.
“We need to maintain consistency for the remaining games of the season.
“Most of our players are working and that is why some of them don’t attend training at times.
“Some of them miss matches on the weekends, so we don’t really have a consistent line-up.
“Not having the same team for every game is our biggest challenge.
“But I think we have handled it well to continue winning matches.”
Meanwhile the competition is expected to host its finals in September with the top-five sides to advance into the playoffs.
