Hat’s off for PM

Letters

I CORRECT Timothy Nigaul’s perspective of my view on mixing Gods word with politics in reference to comments circulated in the social media and trace how little known Peter O’Neill in PNG politics rose to the helm as prime minister for a period of seven years now.
As a matter of fact, many followers of the National Alliance party still claim that O’Neill snatched the post from Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare and that sentiment may continue fuel disharmony.
Seven years from now you may ask why Sir Michael took off the garlanded flower placed around his neck to welcome him as PM at Pangia and then Sir Michael took it out off his neck and placed it on O’Neill.
Is it not a sign of conferring a power or blessing in literal sense to be the next PM? We leave it for those who want to believe in this superstitious nonsense or not.
Back to reality, the challenges facing the country is the outcome of ignorance of past successive governments and its entire citizen population.
Everyone thought that PNG was fine with an enslaved mining driven economy with a small population of 4-5 million from the 70s to the 90s.
Governments within so-called “kitchen cabinets” continued to milk public coffers without any tangible investments to cater for an increasing population that was prone to double within a span of 20 years.
Citizens carry the blame for making too many babies at a rate of 3.4 per cent per year that economy cannot absorb are just symptoms of those ignorance by past governments and its citizens alike.
So my hats off for Peter O’Neill for taking bold decisions to arrest those symptoms with massive public investments to improve the productive capacity of the economy in 3-10 years’ time.
Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion.
