Hawa jail gets new vehicle

THE renovation work at Hawa jail in Hela has been boosted with a donation of a new vehicle to the jail by the provincial administration.
Acting jail commander Sgt Simon Kitingi told The National that technical officers from Correctional Services were putting final the touches to the jail’s 14 staff houses.
Kitingi said the work would be completed next week and they would start on the main jail compound.
He said that his technical team would carry out major renovation work to the toilets, mess, laundry and other buildings.
Kitingi said they used K200,000 given by the Hela government late last year to buy materials for the renovation work.
“We are doing big work with less money. If a contractor is engaged, it will cost the department and the provincial government more money,” Kitingi said.
He said his department was using its own carpenters, plumbers, electricians, welders and other technical people. Work is expected to take five weeks, Kitingi said.
