Health centre gets help

MELBOURNE Rotary Club in Australia honoured its commitment made a year ago to Braun Health Foundation by delivering of two containers with K1 million worth of medical equipment to the Braun Memorial Hospital in Finschhafen district Morobe.

The container, delivered two weeks ago, ended a year-long wait by the Lutheran church-run rural hospital administration and medical staff.

Hospital administrator Joana Kaku was given the honour to open the containers in front of a cheering crowd at Maneba wharf.

Five trucks delivered the cargo to the hospital.

The equipment included two anesthetic systems, two ventilators, a baby thermo system, two nebulizers, a suction pump, an x-ray viewing screen, seven wheelchairs, two autoclave or mini-sterilisers, five computers, two microscopes, 13 walking frames, 20 pairs of crutches, 40 cartons of medical text books covering mediccations, five ivy drip stands, 500 pairs of optic glasses, seven drug trolleys, four baby nursing tubs, three baby cots and trolley.

There were a variety of beds including 21 hospital beds, 18 normal beds, three intensive care unit beds, seven power operated bed with external controls, two operation theatre beds and 39 hospital mattresses.

Other items that were included were thousands of hospital dress uniforms for community health workers and theatre staff, 20 pairs of dressing shoes, 10 pairs of track shoes, patient cubical curtains, 100 pillows, 120 hospital linens and 500 pairs of optical glasses.
