Health centre gets K10m funding

THE National Government has allocated K10 million for a health centre in Imbonggu, Southern Highlands, to be upgraded to a district hospital.
Health Minister Sir Puka Temu announced the government’s commitment to the Pokarapul health centre during a visit there recently.
The Pokarapul heath centre serves about 50,000 people in the district.
Imbonggu MP and Higher Education Minister Pila Niningi said his people have willingly given land and will give more land if the health centre needs to expand.
Plans are in place to put more funding into the district hospital so it can have operating theatres and accident and emergency services.
Niningi wants the health centre to become a fully-fledged hospital that will cater for all the health needs of the people.
Sir Puka also presented aan ambulance to the health centre, with the help of Digicel Foundation.
A computer was also presented for the hospital’s administration department.
