Health centre in critical need of labour ward, says worker

THE Wampar Health Centre in Morobe needs a labour ward, according to community health worker John Joseph Titus.
He said they had to refer some pregnant women to the Angau General Hospital in Lae for the delivering of their babies.
The health centre delivers babies for women who cannot make the hour-long drive to Lae.
“We have a midwife and two nurses here who help with these deliveries,” he said.
“But we need a proper set-up for this. It is very important.”
The health centre delivers on average three babies a week and up to four family and sexual violence cases from around 1,000 patients they attend to in a week.
He said the health facility also needed an ambulance to transport sick people to Lae.

  • Government should address issues affecting health centres.
This is where 70-80 percent of the people meet modern medicine.
