School closed for cleaning after positive case

THE St Joseph’s International School in Port Moresby engaged a company to clean the premises after a teacher tested positive for the Covid-19 last week, an official says.
School acting executive director Fr Ben Fleming told The National yesterday that the school was closed on Monday to allow teachers and students who had contact with the teacher to get tested.
“We have at least two days deep-cleaning by Propest Control to disinfect the classrooms, playgrounds and every space,” he said.
“The spraying and wipe-down will continue for the next week before students return to class.”
He said the preschool teacher who tested positive had since been discharged from the Rita Flynn isolation centre for a 14-day self-isolation at home.
“All the staff have been tested and all were negative except for the preschool teacher.
“The testing centre has refused to retest our staff because they do not show any symptoms of the Covid-19.
“We have about 30 staff that need to get retested so we have reached out to the Pacific International Hospital,” Fleming said.
He urged parents to take students in the teacher’s class for testing.
