WEST New Britain is the 12th province to report Covid-19 cases, according to National Pandemic Response Controller David Manning.
It reported two cases and has started contact tracing.
The National Capital District reported nine taking its total confirmed cases to 284.
He said WNB was one of the provinces which failed to send samples for testing last month.
The 11 cases reported on Wednesday took the national total to 471.
Five died.
Manning said people who recovered from the Covid-19 were expected to live normal lives later.
“I appeal to everyone to avoid stigmatising people tested positive for the Covid-19,” he said.
“We know from other countries that once someone has recovered, she or he does not have the virus anymore.”
Furthermore, he said the active cases were monitored at the health and isolation facilities until they were well and free of the virus before being discharged.

  • You are wrong Mr. Manning. People who recover from first Covid infection can catch the virus again and it has also been proven that the Corona virus still continues to remain in the body.
PNG should engage a medical expert to overlook Covid Response and Coordination. The police should be partners in making sure that measures and laws created to control the pandemic are strictly followed.
