HEKARI United have confirmed the signing of Solomon Islands goalkeeper Anthony Talo to boost their Oceania Football Confederation Champions League and Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League campaigns.
Coach Jerry Allan told The National that Talo’s signing had brought the number of Hekari goalkeepers to three with Papua New Guinea international Ismael Pole and veteran Leslie Kalai already in the squad.
Talo, who joined Hekari last week, revealed his excitement at joining a PNG team for the first time and said he was looking forward to competing with Pole and Kalai for spots.
“Hekari are mostly made up of youths and I have enjoyed the first week with them,” Talo said.

“Pole and Kalai are good players so I have to work extra hard to earn a spot in the team.
“Competition is always healthy for a team.
“It makes you put in extra work and try to be consistent which is good for the team and as a player.
“My goal is to win more games in the NSL and help Hekari be competitive in the Champions League.”
Allan said Hekari needed a third goalkeeper for the Champions League and that it was a good signing for the Mineral Resources Development Company-sponsored side. “Kalai and Pole have been great for us,” he said.
“But Leslie is not in camp because of personal reasons, so we brought in another goalkeeper to fill in the void. We want to build a strong team to boost our domestic and regional campaigns.”
Meanwhile, Allan said the professional players (from Brazil and Portugal) Hekari had signed in December would join the club this month after securing their visas.
Meanwhile, Hekari lead the domestic competition after two rounds.
