SECOND-PLACED Hekari United rebounded from their 1-1 draw with Port Moresby City to beat Port Moresby Academy 7-0 in Port Moresby on Saturday.
The Eric Komeng-coached side started with a strong attack which saw skipper Marie Kaipu and forward Wendy Paraya scoring a hat-trick each in the first half and a goal by Georgina Kaikas just before the break.
Komeng told The National that after their disappointing result last weekend, they had worked on a lot of areas at training.
Hekari’s high-intensity training paid off as Kaipu’s first strike hit the net in the third minute followed by Paraya’s goals in the ninth, 10th and 22nd minutes.
The early goals set them in motion as they continued striking attempts with two more goals by Kaipu with assist by forward Mervis Singara.
Kaikas netted Hekari’s seventh goal on the 45 minute which sealed the game.
Komeng said the important thing in their preparations was teamwork in attack and defence.
“Even though we didn’t score in the second half, we sealed the match in the first half and that’s what I wanted,” he said.
“We don’t need to score goals in the second half if we can maintain our position, avoid injuries and minor mistakes.
“I’m impressed with the result.”
The three points from their win put them on 21 points on the ladder, four points adrift of leaders Genesis.
“We’ve learned a lot from this game and we look forward to our next game, it will be very tough against Genesis,” Komeng said.
