HEKARI United and the Tusbab Stallions moved up a spot after they claimed 2-1 wins in round 16 of the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Hekari moved up to second after their win over the visiting Morobe Wawens with Roger Saking scoring his first goal for the hosts in the first half at Papua New Guinea Football Stadium. Junior David scored Hekari’s second goal with a 30m shot after halftime.
Wawens skipper Ferdallas Namuesh set the pace for his side to hit back with forward Richard Waffi slicing through to score his side’s only goal of the match.
“We worked hard and I’m pleased with our efforts,” Hekari manager Vonnie Kapi Natto said. “Our patience paid off and I’m excited with the win because it moves us up the ladder.”
Meanwhile, the Stallions moved into the top-four after their win over Gulf Komara in the main clash of Port Moresby’s triple-header.
An early goal by Graham Berigami gave Tusbab the lead but Gulf responded with an equaliser through striker Renagi Ila for 1-1 scoreline at halftime.
Tusbab midfielder Jason Wadunah scored the winner with a brilliant second-half shot.
“The win is great after we lost all our matches since the resumption of the competition,” Stallions coach Rachel Wadunah said.
