Hekari welcomes midfielder Wama back from the United States

HEKARI United have welcomed back midfielder Wira Wama after the former Papua New Guinea international returned from studies in the United States.
The 30-year-old spent six years at Maranatha Baptist University in Watertown, Wisconsin, and graduated with a bachelor of business administration in digital media and marketing.
Hekari manager Vonnie Kapi Natto told The National last week that Wama would boost the side, who are second on the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League (NSL) ladder, for the remainder of the season.
“It’s great to have him,” she said.
“He is a skillful and experienced player who came through our junior development.
“Despite the hardships faced by the club due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s good to have Wama back at such time.
“He’s definitely a big boost for us and he will combine well with fellow midfielder Michael Foster, defender Koriak Upaiga and the rest of the squad.”
Wama, who represented PNG in the 2016 Nations Cup in Port Moresby, last played for Hekari in 2013 before departing for US the following year.
Meanwhile, Kapi Natto said head coach Jerry Allen was still in his native Solomon Islands and could not return for the NSL restart due to border restrictions.
She said assistant coach Eric Komeng would lead in his absence. the club in the 41-year-old’s absence.
