HELA residents celebrated the 44th independence anniversary peacefully, says acting provincial police commander John Iara.
He said for the first time law and order was maintained throughout the province and commended the people of Hela for that.
He said police did not received any reports of complaints from any of the three districts and confirmed that celebrations were good and peaceful.
“We had a good and peaceful celebration all throughout the province, all districts – Komo-Margarima, Lake Kupiago and Tari-Pori electorates celebrated without any incident,” Iara said.
He said police operations were continuing and soldiers were still in the province to ensure good order was maintained.
