Hela council to register business arm

Highlands

THE Hela executive council has decided to register the business arm of the provincial government.
The council made the decision to form a company, Hela Investment Corporation Ltd, in their meeting last Thursday in Tari.
Hela Governor Francis Potape said the business arm was long overdue and was supposed to be formed since the creation of the province. Potape said the creation of the Hela Investment Corporation Ltd, would exist to cater for all proceeds from the Papua New Guinea LNG gas and other projects in the province.
He said the company would be chaired by the governor and the boards would comprise two local level government presidents from each district in the province, church and women’s representative.
Potape said the company would be run by professionals and expatriates and operate as a company with no political interference.
He said the company would partner the Hela people by giving them employment opportunities and support in business.
Potape said the Hela government did not have big business apart from Curtain Bros.
“Through this company (Hela Investment Corporation Ltd), all improvement payments of projects will be made by this company to the people. The company will also improve the province,” he said.
Potape said the province would be developed by businesses, not politics.
