HELA provincial administration is installing the Alesco payroll system to stop public servants getting paid for doing nothing.
The new payroll system was installed under the leadership of administrator William Bando and Department of Personnel Management last week.
It is to ensure that public servants work in the province and get their pay accordingly.
Hela human resource manager Eky Perebugo told The National in Tari that public servants living outside the province and continuing to receive pay for doing
nothing would be put off the payroll.
Perebugo said the salaries of 415 public servants in the province would now be processed in Tari and deposited into their bank accounts
He said physical checks would be done and only those present at their designated workplaces in the three districts would be paid.
Perebugo said in the past all public servants’ salaries were processed in Port Moresby. Public servants took advantage of that by not going to work but continued to receive they pay.
Perebugo said the purpose of installing the Alesco payroll system was to monitor public servants’ salaries, recruitment and selection, suspension and termination and monitoring and compliance.
“We will launch the new payroll system in December and start using it starting on the first pay week of January next year,” he said.
Perebugo said there were no more law and order issues and public servants should not use that as an excuse to stay away from work.
