POLICE in Tari have arrested the alleged prime suspect in a killing last month and confiscated two factory-made guns that were used, Hela commander Martin Lakari says.
He told The National that the guns were allegedly used in the shooting of Tonney Michael, from Kikita village at the back of Tari General Hospital, on May 5.
He said the firearms were a blue tactical rifle and a black 9mm Magnum.
“Both guns are believed to be licensed and owned by a politician from Hela,” Lakari said.
It was alleged that earlier, the same suspect broke into the politician’s home and stole the guns.
“The suspect has been arrested, charged with murder and remanded at the Buiebi Correctional Service in Imbonggu district, Southern Highlands,” Lakari said.
He told The National that he was unable to provide the name of the suspect as he was out of the province.
He said investigations would take some time because there were a number of other parties implicated.
