The Hela government will be setting up a tourism bureau to regulate the province’s famous Huli Wigman culture.
Provincial administrator William Bando said the government had signed a partnership with Tourism Promotion Authority to set up the Hela tourism bureau to promote the province’s bio-diversity and cultures.
“The Hela tourism bureau will also regulate the province’s famous Huli Wigman culture, meaning, if you want to see Huli Wigmen, you come to Tari and see them, or if you want to perform the Huli Wigman dance outside the province, you will have to get written permission from the governing council of the Hela Tourism Bureau,” Bando said.
He said the provincial government had made a commitment of K500,000 for the setting up of the bureau and was planning to launch it later this year.
“The K500,000 will cover the master plan for Tari as a potential tourism hub,” Bando said.
“It will also be used for the recruitment of a team that will be responsible for the management of the bureau, and operational costs.
“We want to promote our province, our cultures and our diversity through this bureau.”
