Maru wants council to provide feedback to State

National Planning and Monitoring Minister Richard Maru has urged the Consultative Implementation and Monitoring Council (CIMC) to provide effective feedback to the Government.
Maru, who is also the council chairman, said this was important so that it could be captured in the five-year medium-term development plan three (MTDP 3) to be formulated in mid-year.
“The Government is putting K2 million to this organisation and the process,” Maru told the first CIMC meeting in Port Moresby on Tuesday,” Maru said.
“This is the most important forum as far as getting the views from the civil society, private sector and others to get feedback and valuable input to help us guide government policy and help us implement our plans.
“Just looking back as a minister of Cabinet, and even before that, despite all the meetings you’ve had, I’m not sure if the feedback is fed through to the government system.”
Maru said he would allow an effective structure and framework to be put in place so that feedback would be evident in the government decision-making process.
He said the themes and topics of discussions must be aligned to government policies.
“In that way, the government will listen to us,” Maru said.
“The theme for this year must be align to the Alotau Accord priorities, and our first important key topic for this year has to be on inclusive economic growth.”
Maru said there had to be value in the CIMC process.
CIMC will meet in Lae next month.
