HELA students attending Divine Word University (DWU) were praised by many teachers, parents and Hela elites after a two-day successful awareness by them at secondary schools in Hela which ended yesterday.

Twenty DWU students travelled to Hela during their semester break to raise awareness on the importance of investing in human resource with the theme: Empowering the growth of human resource for Hela.

The awareness was aimed at increasing the number of intakes at tertiary institutions.

The students visited St Joseph Tari Secondary School on Monday and Koroba Secondary on Tuesday, urging students to work hard to enter tertiary institutions.

St Joseph Tari Secondary School deputy principal administration David Dei said many students had been influenced by the PNG Liquefied Natural Gas project and had the idea of getting a Grade 10 or Grade 12 certificate to be engaged in the project.

“This is the first of its kind, tertiary students have brought reality back to our students at the school and we are happy that our prayers have been answered,” Dei said.

He said the awareness would help Grade 12 students as they prepared to fill their school leaver forms.
