Help save souls, pastors’ wives urged

 MORE than 75 pastors’ wives from the Central Papua Conference of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church returned this week from a 10-day educational tour of Cairns, Australia.

The women travelled to Cairns last Monday led by the conference’s Partners In Ministry director, Beatrice Kemo.

Apart from visiting sites, the women attended a four-day retreat on issues from the role of a pastor’s wife to public speaking and prayer ministry. 

On the final day of the conference, Kemo told the women that as pastors’ wives, their role was to help their husbands save souls.

“Saving souls is God’s business, a pastor’s business and a pastor’s wife’s business. Our job is to save souls,” she said.

“God called the disciples and He has also called us.”

She said there was unity between God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit at creation which showed that there was a shared ministry and this unity should continue between God, the pastors and their wives.

She urged the women to pray and study the Bible so that they could share God’s Word with others.

The women shared their joy and challenges of being a pastor’s wife and encouraged others to keep praying for the church and for those who are yet to know God.

The retreat ended on a high note, with the presentation of gifts and bouquets to retired pastors’ wives. 

Among the retirees were Zita Hibo, wife of the first national president of the PNG Union Mission, and Elizabeth Lopa, wife of the late Dr Aaron Lopa.
