Help to benefit post-graduate students

POST-graduate students can also benefit from the new Higher Education Loan Programme (Help), Department of Higher Education Research Science and Technology secretary Fr Jan Czuba says.
“Help will be for all students to benefit from – students studying for basic certificates to those who want to get their doctorate degrees,” he said.
Fr Czuba yesterday explained the process of applying for Help and the proposed amounts to be loaned to students.
He said the amounts were yet to be finalised and that fees for certain academic programmes might vary.
“Some medical and engineering programmes may cost up to K50,000 a year so we might have to adjust the amounts to loan out in that case.”
He said Help would also be available to students who wished to study overseas.
“The criteria for students in different academic programmes and institutions will be announced soon for all to see and know how best they can benefit from Help.”
He said the software to manage and rollout Help was almost completed.
“It will make sure everything is done transparently and quickly.
“We want to emphasise transparency in everything we do, thus, all our processes will be done electronically.
“We want to make Help interest-free so that after graduating and getting employed, students will only pay the amount they borrowed.”

  • What guarantee can you give that all under-graduate students who loan over the number of years of study will get employment after graduating from their respective higher institutions to repay their school fee loan?

How long will they be required to repay their loans?
