Highlands costing PNG too much

Letters

The country is now held to ransom by the crisis in the Highlands provinces.
Much of the country’s budget is used to deal with the issues that the Highlanders caused through political instability, tribal fighting and the destruction of State properties.
As the prime minister had said in Parliament and as proposed by Dr Eric Kwa, of the Law Reform Commission, each province in Papua New Guinea should work towards attaining autonomy.
Then after that, each region – Papua, Momase, New Guinea Highlands and New Guinea Islands – should progress towards establishing regional governments.
The nation of PNG can be united by the national Government through the national Parliament and a central administration to oversee important key structures of the nation state.
This way, each province and region can legislate, budget, plan and manage their own affairs.
