  • Establish proper systems to maintain Highway.

The Bane Bridge in Kainantu was already showing signs of collapse over the years. But the relevant authories fail to take actions to preseve this vital insfrustructure. The highlands highway is also a major infrastructure that has been neglected over the years as successive governments come and go. Compare it’s quality to some of the roads in Port Moresby and one can obviously conclude that truly the highway has deteriorated so badly it has affected service delivery in the resource rich highlands province. The reconstruction or maintenance of the bridge is only a paltry solution to the overall problem. But there a lot of areas of the highway ready to collapse if no proactive actions are taken. Whilst the current O’Neill Abel government has sourced funding of K180 million to upgrade the highway, it vital that effective systems or machinisms must be established to consistently maintain the highway.
